Introduction
This is another major cause of indigestion, although now less common than gastro-oesophageal reflux. Peptic ulcers can occur anywhere in the upper intestinal tract but they are usually found in the stomach or in the first few inches of the upper intestine, the duodenum. Medically speaking, an ulcer is a small area of tissue which has lost its upper layers, so that an indentation or sore is created.
